Medically known as adhesive capsulitis, frozen shoulder is a condition where the flexible capsule surrounding your shoulder joint becomes inflamed, thick, and stiff. It is notorious for causing debilitating pain and a severe restriction in your range of motion, eventually making the shoulder feel completely "frozen" in place.
As an interventional pain specialist, I frequently see patients who are at their wits' end with this condition. Let's break down why this happens and, more importantly, how advanced Minimally Invasive Pain and Spine Interventions (MIPSI) can help when traditional treatments fall short.
While frozen shoulder can happen to anyone, certain factors significantly increase your risk:
Diabetes: This is one of the most common risk factors. Patients with diabetes are not only at a higher risk of developing frozen shoulder, but their symptoms also tend to be more severe and harder to treat.
Thyroid Disorders: Both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism are linked to an increased incidence of adhesive capsulitis.

Age and Gender: It most commonly affects individuals between the ages of 40 and 60, and women are more likely to develop it than men.

But how can you possibly stretch or exercise when lifting your arm even an inch causes excruciating, blinding pain?
Physical therapy is undeniably crucial for long-term recovery. However, when the pain is too severe, forcing movement is not just agonizing—it is virtually impossible. You need a bridge that reduces the pain enough so that you can actually tolerate your physical therapy.

What it is: We use real-time ultrasound to visualize the exact, microscopic bands of tight muscle (trigger points) and contracted fascia that are restricting your movement.
